The Herts DPP, in partnership with Saracens, provides a high-quality, rugby experience focussed on the individual to encourage lifelong participation in the game.
We aim to give coaches and players an opportunity to develop through collaboration with the most innovative professional academy in the country, while supporting players within a clearly developed pathway.
DPP Aims
- Players receive regular contact with experienced pathway coaches.
- Retention of more players within the game at 16+.
- More coaches and players with enhanced skills moving upwards through the Age Grade Pathway.
- More coaches with enhanced skills to meet the needs of players at this stage of development.
- Strengthen clubs and schools by improving the standards of players and coaches within them.
- Positive view of the sport by players, parents and other stakeholders.
DPP Eligibility
A nominated player must meet one or more of the following to be eligible for assessment:
- Resides in Hertfordshire.
- Attends school in Hertfordshire
- Is a playing member of a Hertfordshire rugby club
Nomination Process
Each season Herts schools and clubs are invited to nominate players for assessment for selection into the Developing Player Programme. Not all players may be suitable for this transition and we ask that due care and consideration for player welfare is taken into account prior to nomination.
The Age Grade Pathway
Developing Player Programme (DPP)
These players have an opportunity to gain a higher level of training than they might expect to receive at school and/or club level. Players will take part in both training and festivals throughout the season.
Herts-Saracens Player Development Group (PDG)
Players who are invited onto the PDG will train and take part in festivals as normal with the DPP but will receive extra training sessions as part of the PDG.
Saracens Player Development Group (SPDG)
Players that are identified by coaches will be invited to the Saracens PDG of which training sessions are led by Saracens Academy coaches. This comes into effect at the U15s group.
