Lee Hyams RIP
Lee Hyams
The Herts Referees Society has lost another of its long standing friends.
Lee Hyams passed away on 10th March after a lengthy illness which unfortunately denied him the pleasure of active involvement with the Society or with his club, Watford RFC, in recent times. In accordance with the principles of his Jewish faith, Lee’s funeral was held last Monday morning at Hendon.
Lee joined the Herts Referees Society from the (now defunct) Harrow Society in 1991 and remained a prominent member of the Society for many years as a referee and then as an assessor. He beat cancer when approaching the age of 50 and returned to Society action, only to have stand down recently when his sight began to fail.
Lee ran an international clothing business and used his many contacts in that world to provide the Referees Society with high quality kit.
Lee’s lasting advice to all new referees was to referee with confidence, humour and aplomb…even if you weren’t sure about the right decision.
His unfailing good humour, his enthusiasm for the game and his love of the camaraderie of the Referees Society will be long remembered by many.
